One of my usual sources for inspiration is things I hear on the radio, especially NPR. Recently heard was a bit about compost pickup service. I was impressed. Not only am I inspired to write about it, but I am going to have to see about what is involved in trying to get such a service started here in Central Kentucky. Here is what I know about it so far…

My wife and I have taken up residence in a townhouse for time being. It is going to be a bit longer before getting farmland of some sort or another. So in the meantime, I am contenting my desire to grow and produce with small bit of gardening on the patio. Granted, a good deal of these plants are just flowers, but there are also tomatoes and herbs.
A couple of months ago I purchased a horse trailer. Been a long while since I have had one in my possession. What a different kind of feeling it has made. Kind of hard to explain if you are not a farm/rancher type, but I am going to try to just a bit… but first a bit of background is order.
As spring is upon us and so many folks move toward those spring cleaning chores in conjunction with new beginnings with gardens plowed and planted and often time a good deal of livestock is born, I was also moved here on the blog. I have done a refresh a lot of things including a new theme, getting rid of a lot of clutter, and just in general have freshened things up a good bit. I plan to continue with at least an attempt and more regular interval of blog posting.
A show recently caught on PBS’s American Experience about the Dust Bowl of the 1930′s really brought home relevant thoughts about lessons perhaps lightly learned at the time. Perhaps we need a bit of a history lesson a revisit of what happened then due to bad farming practices. Further, it is with some irony that one has to consider the big picture here, as the government stepped in with better practices and suggestions about limited scope in the 1930′s – since the 1970′s the say get big or get out.
