Roundup = Poison?

News flash (maybe not so much)… Monsanto is increasing capacity in order to produce more Roundup.
Read that in a week old RSS feed relating to agriculture current events this morning. Kind of scary when you think about it. Genetically manipulated and modified crops that withstand the application of the herbicide (weed killer for those that think like me) to the crop without harming the crop itself. It has been going on for a while now which is scary in its own right. Now add to that the increased usage of such practices and it is even more scary. What is there to be scared about?
Poor Dirt Farmer…

So I am currently re-reading parts of the book entitled The Complete Agrarian Reader, a collection of essays by agrarians and their opinions on things. Probably the book that first introduced me to the idea. Actually, I should say, that made me realize it was not necessarily a some romantic notion that I alone had, that there were other people with similar thoughts on things.
Recession Rant

So I am looking around at all the news of late about the impending recession or that we may actually already be in one. I am seeing all the recent news about tax breaks to help restart the economy and what more can be done to get things going. I even noticed sometime in the last 24 hours that the basic stuff we need in the grocery store has really jumped prices in the last year or so (eggs have jumped nearly $1.00, from around $2.00 to $3.00), though we already knew there had been a big jump in some stuff such as gasoline in the recent years, it too is on the upsurge again. It is really starting to sound like a doom and gloom kind of situation.
A Beginning…

I am going to begin this blog with some historical re-posting several blog entries I have made on my much more mainstreamed blog over at Mephistos. I find, while looking at those post from so long ago, that I feel even stronger about the topic today then I did those months or in some cases even years ago. A few of them will have some new comments added to the context, others will be verbatim, short of some grammar and picture updates. In addition, I will be posting some new posts interspersed within those old posts that I am revisiting. One last thing and then I will include the old post of yester-year, I intend to have a post every day for the month of April and will often time use the very appropriate theme of Growing from the NaBlaPoMo.
