Yesterday I went down to Louisville to the Kentucky State Fair. It was a very different kind of experience for me in regards to the state fair. I was there representing our new publication, the Kentucky Farm Forum. Okay, so why I am blogging about that here? Good question, so let me get to an answer for you.
To begin with the Farm Forum publication is, if you did not guess already, a publication aimed at farmers and agriculture based endeavors. It is still in its early going and has a lot of growing to go. It does have a print component, which is primarily what is being promoted and marketed at the fair. Additionally, there is a website for the product as well.
The intent is to provide a specific place that agriculture related news and stories. It will also provide a voice for those involved in the farm community to open discuss issues via forums and such. It goes without saying of course, that there will be plenty of opportunity for those business and individuals that need to advertise to this group to do so, both in typical advertising and classifieds both in print and online.
What is so extremely interesting for me is that I do not ever think I have gone to the fair and not gotten over to the livestock pavilion parts of the fair. However, yesterday, despite some short breaks while I was there and I did roam a bit, I did not get over there. I did see plenty of farmers and farm types coming through though and given the nature of our booth I got to speak to several them. There was a good amount of conversation about the product and general good feeling about the interest with it.
The really intriguing part of the day though was the time in between genuine interested parties was the people watching. I will not go into any depth about all the different things that I saw while I was there for ten hours, but it was very interesting. In keeping with what a colleague had started, I periodically tweeted what I saw with a #kystatefair hash-tag. That is what is now included over on the sidebar of the web page and will be left up over the duration for the fair. He and I will tweet things seen on the days and hours that we will be back in attendance at the fair – so stay tuned and look for the interesting things.
